• Pelosi, Turkey and the “Armenian Genocide”

The Democratic congress has sunk to a new low. Since they cannot just pick a date that they want US forces in Iraq to surrender to the Islamofacist dogs that the military is now beating and beating badly they have decided to do an end-around and possibly help kill our soldiers and leave those who do live high-and-dry without up to 70% of the supplies currently getting to them through Incirlik Air Base near Adana in Turkey. It’s the transshipment point for about 70% of all air cargo (including 33% of the fuel) going to supply US forces in Iraq. Included are about 95% of the new “MRAP” — mine-resistant, ambush-protected — vehicles designed to save the lives of American troops. Turkey wasn’t always this helpful. In 2003, the Turks refused permission for the 4th Infantry Division to enter Iraq through Turkey.

The way they are doing it…

A non-binding resolution passed on October 10 by the House Foreign Affairs Committee that labels the 1915-1923 massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire a genocide. Such resolutions can be passed by either or both houses of Congress and are not subject to presidential veto.

The Armenian Genocide was carried out by the “Young Turk” government of the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1916 (with subsidiaries to 1922-23). One and a half million Armenians were killed, out of a total of two and a half million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. (Click here for the details)

Turkey’s Erdogan government has indicated that if the House of Representatives takes action on a non-binding resolution being pushed by Speaker Pelosi, Turkey might revoke our ability to use Incirlik as a way point for Iraq supplies.

Simply stated, if they pass the resolution the “Moderate” Turkish government will take away our ability to use Incirlik Air Base as the jumping off point for our troops leaving them high-and-dry, and for what? Political Power…

On October 11, Pelosi said, “While that may have been a long time ago, genocide is taking place now in Darfur, it did within recent memory in Rwanda, so as long as there is genocide there is need to speak out against it.” Well where was she when Bill Clinton turned his head on Rwanda and over a million people were chopped up by machetes? Sitting in San Fransisco that’s where she was.

But since taking office she and the Democrats have been unable to do anything about the war and that they consistently say they support our troops but not the fight. Well madame speaker, I think you’re nothing more than a treasonous crybaby and you are willing to do anything to stay in power. You make me sick. We all see through your attempt to back-door our troops on the ground and that power that you are so deeply in love with… is going to go out the door when our brothers, sons, fathers, daughters and mothers are left on the battlefield without rations, armor and bullets.

  1. Muslims Against Sharia commend House Democrats and Speaker Pelosi for pressing ahead with an Armenian genocide bill. Republican opposition to the bill is pure manifestation of moral relativism.

    It’s called politics.

  3. Irv says:

Yeah well all this drivel about the Holocaust is just politics too.

Thankfully in a few decades all this “holocaust” labeling and judgment will also be put in its place: politics.

  4. Ed says:

    I know you didn’t just yadda-yadda-yadda the holocaust…

  5. Irv says:

The Armenian genocide doesn’t deserve any more yadda-yadda-yaddaing then the Holocaust.

There is no difference between the many Congressional Holocaust resolutions and the Armenian Genocide resolution.

The timing is not political at all. It has come up for years. With bipartisan support.

Turkey has finally given us so much trouble (like hamstringing us in the war format the get go and threatening our only ally in the are, the Kurds) that its defenders have shrunk to almost nil.

  6. Ed says:

Beep Booop Bop… The timing is not political at all. It has come up for years. With bipartisan support… Beep Boop Bop… You will be assimilated… resistance is futile…

Give me break. You don’t really believe that do you?

    Timing is everything…

  7. Common Sense says:

The problem is that this does not need to be done “now.” And, this isn’t the first time Congress has brought this up. It was done once under the Clinton presidency (Clinton asked Congress not to floor it, and the Republican leadership agreed) and once before back under JFK (if I remember correctly). Nothing is gained by this.

  8. The Armenian Genocide Resolution — The Discussion Continues

As U.S. President George W. Bush reiterates his determination to prevent last week’s House Resolution 106 affirming the Armenian Genocide from being passed by Congress, RFE/RL reports that illegal Armenian immigrants are being deported from Turk…

  9. Dan says:

    Ed,
Yeah, how horrible of those nasty Democrats to call the “organized mass killings of 1.5 million Armenians” (President Bush’s words) a genocide!!!

  10. Ed says:

Dan, you are beginning to annoy me… You are not the be-all-end-all of opinions. Get over yourself. I am willing to debate but the insults are getting old quickly. Feel free to voice your opinion but if you don’t stop with the name calling… Snap Crack Wooosh… Ti Kwan Leap… Banned. Now, “we” do not have a problem calling it what it is. However the timing for this is in the least questionable. Please refer to CommonSense’s comment from above:

“The problem is that this does not need to be done “now.” And, this isn’t the first time Congress has brought this up. It was done once under the Clinton presidency (Clinton asked Congress not to floor it, and the Republican leadership agreed) and once before back under JFK (if I remember correctly). This is simply an attempt by the Left to try and gain the upper hand by demoralizing our troops to try and take the ’08 election. Every attempt by them, Pelosi and Reed, have been met with the opposition Americans feel towards losing this war. This is just another example of how the left only likes America when she is on her knees, when we bow to those who would remove our heads. They are treasonous and want nothing more than to see our young men and women lose this battle, for nothing more than political gain. Disgusting.
