The War On Salt!
The War on Terror Salt has taken a dark turn today as the New York City Health Department releases guidelines suggesting salt intake. Apparently it’s just for the maximum amount of salt that should be in a wide variety of manufactured and packaged foods. It is purely voluntary for now and there are no penalties for not getting in line with what NYC says you can and can’t do, which is in stark contrast with the Trans Fat guidelines which were mandatory. However I have to say that at some point all of you are going to have to tell Old Lady Liberal Agenda to take a hike and quit trying to control your lives. I mean really? GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!
The recommendations call for sizable reductions in the sodium content of many products, from a 20 percent drop in peanut butter to a 40 percent decline in canned vegetables.
Seventeen national health organizations and 25 other city or state health agencies have joined with New York City in the effort, called the National Salt Reduction Initiative. It aims to reduce the average American’s salt intake by 20 percent in five years.

I heard this story on Rush yesterday but I had no idea what he was talking about. He never went into the story he just showed the picture below to the Ditto Cam and being in my car it was impossible to see. So when I got home and saw what he was talking about I thought it was just about the most hysterical picture/story combo I have ever seen. So I am going to do this. I am going to post the story and the link and then below the fold I am going to post their picture. You are not going to believe that the picture goes with the story but… who am I to judge…
Her father worked at General Motors for 45 years before retiring. Her mother taught driver’s education. Nunez and her six siblings grew up middle class.
Things have changed considerably for this Ohio family.
Nunez’s van broke down last fall. Now, her 19-year-old daughter has no reliable transportation out of their subsidized housing complex in Fostoria, 40 miles south of Toledo, to look for a job.
Nunez and most of her siblings and their spouses are unemployed and rely on government assistance and food stamps. Some have part-time jobs, but working is made more difficult with no car or public transportation…
Nunez, 40, has never worked and has no high school degree. She says a car accident 17 years ago left her depressed and disabled, incapable of getting a job. Instead, she and her daughter, Angelica Hernandez, survive on a $637 Social Security check and $102 in food stamps.
Hernandez received her high school diploma and has had several jobs in recent years. But now, because fewer restaurants and stores are hiring, she says she finds it hard to find a job. Even if she could, she says it’s particularly hard to imagine how she’ll keep it. She says she needs someone to give her a lift just to get to an interview. And with gas prices so high, she’s not sure she could afford to pay someone to drive her to work every day.
People tell Nunez her daughter could get more money in public assistance if she had a child.
“A lot of people have told me, ‘Why don’t your daughter have a kid?’”
They both reject that as a plan.
“I’m trying to get a job,” Hernandez says. “I just can’t get a job.” …
Most of their extended family lives in the same townhouse complex…
The only one with a car is Irma Hernandez, Nunez’s mother…
She’s now two car payments behind.
“I’m about to lose my car,” she says on her way to pick up one of her daughters to take her to Toledo. “So then what’s going to happen to us?”
So Nunez and her daughter are mostly stuck at home.
The rising cost of food means their money gets them about a third fewer bags of groceries — $100 used to buy about 12 bags of groceries, but now it’s more like seven or eight. So they cut back on expensive items like meat, and they don’t buy extras like ice cream anymore. Instead, they eat a lot of starches like potatoes and noodles.

• Pets Being Slaughtered for Meat in Zimbabwe, It Tastes Like Chicken!

HARARE, Zimbabwe — Pets are being slaughtered for meat in shortage-stricken Zimbabwe and record numbers of animals have been surrendered to shelters or abandoned by owners no longer able to feed them, according to animal welfare groups.
The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said it could not feed surrendered animals or find new homes and was being forced to kill them and destroy the corpses.

Juan Canales can have his old job back at 84 Thai Food if he wants it.
The manager who fired Canales on Monday called him Wednesday to apologize and hire him back. Canales lost his job as a waiter after saving a woman from a carjacker in the parking lot outside the Fort Lauderdale restaurant where he worked, in the 900 block of State Road 84.
Manager Sathaporn Yosagrai said Canales was fired for mistakes, not for missing work as he talked to police and reporters after his heroics. “I feel sorry about all of this,” Yosagrai said.
But Canales said he has no plans to return. “He hurt me too much.” Since subduing the carjacker, Canales, 42, has gotten several offers to interview for jobs.

A waiter in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who left his shift to rescue a woman being attacked by an armed carjacker was fired after the heroic effort.Police said a 22-year-old woman was attacked by a knife-wielding man outside the 84 Thai Food restaurant in the Southland Shopping Center on Monday.Restaurant waiter Juan Canales spotted the attack and ran to help.
Canales said he tackled the culprit, who police identified as Albert Means, and held him until police could arrive.
However, when Canales went back to work, he said his boss terminated him. “He told me you’re dismissed, you’re fired,” Canales said. “And I looked him and I said, ‘Are you serious?’ (He said) go get out of here, you’re fired.”"Did he give you a specific reason why?” the reporter asked.”No, he did not,” Canales said. The woman he saved, Massiel Marquartdt, said she did not understand why Canales was fired.”I couldn’t believe that after he’s done something so noble, they would actually go ahead and fire him,” Marquartdt said. The restaurant manager said Canales may be a hero but he just wasn’t that good of an employee.

Waleed al Shehri was on board Flight 11 and is thought, along with his brother Wail al-Shehri, to have murdered at least two flight attendants during the hijacking. Mohammed Atta flew the plane. The plane eventually was crashed by Atta into World Trade Center North Tower 1. Bin Laden says he’s an example that all Muslims should follow to joint the “Caravan of martyrs”. Murdering innocent men, women, and children–such an example! It is not clear when the audio of bin Laden was made, but references to the death of Abu Musab al Zarqawi make it seem likely that it’s no more than 15 months old.
